What are Friends For?

Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day - a perfect day, actually.  We've had a great spring.  It's what made me decide to do this.  Being in the Air Force doesn't make one feel overly secure about where you'll be living in three months, but I've decided I'd like to 'homestead' here in Colorado.  Besides, I've accumulated too much stuff to haul it all over the place on different assignments.  So since I've decided to keep the house, I figured it was time for some renovation.

Not anything drastic; just a deck and a place for a hot tub.  Great excuse to throw a party, really.  Invite some folks from work to come out, have a barbeque, pound a few nails.  No big deal.  Quite honestly, I'm amazed there are so many people here.  Coming out and working in the sun when you can be doing something with the family at home isn't much of a choice.  But here they are.  Kids too - which is fine.  Lot of women here, which surprises me.  Didn't think there would be.  Then again, with the show that's being put on for everyone to see, I may have to sell tickets at the front door.

I'm watching the antics going on over in the 'construction zone,' and I'm wondering if there isn't more horsing around happening than actual work being done.  But it's alright, I certainly don't mind.  Got my three favorite people in the universe over there working and it is soooooome sight.  Colonel "it's Saturday, call me Jack fercryingoutloud" O'Neill is hammering away at a particularly obstinate nail, shirt off, jeans riding lower than I thought he'd ever allow, and all those back muscles just sort of - moving.  The man's a stud - I don't care how grey his hair turns.  Nothing jiggles on the man.  He's just lean and solid.  Very solid.  VERY.  Side arm - yeah, right.

Standing next to him is Teal'c.  Jeeze Louise would you look at that chest!  Jack bought him these muscle shirts so he could get outside and enjoy the sun without having to wrap his stomach up or wear heavier clothes.  My my my that is a lovely sight to behold.  He sees me looking at him and gives me one of those little head bows and a smile.  He has the most wonderful smile - when he lets it out.

Speaking of smiles - I can hear Daniel laughing and I see that megawatt grin of his as he turns to grab some more boards.  Jack's probably regaling him with some off-color story.  Those two fight like cats and dogs at work, but get them away from the Mountain and the stress of the job . . . they get on like a house a'fire.  No one else can make Daniel laugh like Jack can.  Oh, we get the chuckles and the suppressed giggle now and then, but Jack is the only one that can bring joy into Daniel's world.  I wonder if he realizes how special that is.  Daniel just winked at me - he's just so damned cute.  As he lifts the boards up to Jack, I see how strong he's gotten over the last few years.  He's decided to shed his shirt too, and those old cut offs of his aren't leaving much to the imagination.  I cast a quick glance at the women filling up the viewing area that once was my back yard.  Looks like I won't have to water for a few days, what with all the drooling going on right now.

Oh here we go, the guys have finally noticed.  I try to keep my laughter under control, but the minute Jack turns around and gives a big stretch of his arms over his head, you can actually hear the sighs from the assembled crowd.  Daniel bends over a little farther than he has to - supposedly tightening up his shoe laces.  Was that a whimper I just heard?  And there we have the hat-trick - Teal has just flexed the muscles in his chest.  Looks like Nurse Johansen is about to go down for the eight count.  She's had a crush on him since forever.

All three look over at me.  I just shake my head and walk back to the tool shed to get some more nails and another tape measure.  I can hear the excited cackling as the boys come down onto the lawn and make their way over to the picnic table to get something cold to drink.  I try not to burst out laughing at the reaction of the women.  It's understandable really - I mean just because I work, live and die with these men on a daily basis doesn't mean I'm immune to their charms.  I'm not - I just love them too much to ever let anything get out of hand.  Almost did with the Colonel.  Luckily, we pulled back from that before anything happened.  It would have ruined everything - the team included.  Besides, he's recently found someone who makes him very happy indeed.

I come back out into the sun carrying my various items and Daniel steps up to help me.  I even get a kiss on the cheek.  "What's that for?"

"Just because," he says, relieving me of the things I'm carrying and handing me a diet soda in exchange.  I can feel the jealous stares as I make my way back toward the house.  I stop at the picnic table first to check the ice supply in the chest.

"MajorCarter," Teal'c says in his rumbly voice that I adore so much, "it is indeed a fine day for this activity."  I get one of his gentle pats on the back.  I love it when he does that.

I return the gesture with a little hug at the end.  "I'm glad you could be here."

Jack reaches up and rubs my back with those amazing, broad hands of his.  "You got some food inside for us, Carter?"

"I can probably scare up something," I say, giving his thigh a pat and a little squeeze.  Oh yeah, that raised the dagger level of the ladies right up into the lethal range.  I chuckle as I enter the house and see Cassie and Janet working on finishing up the food for lunch.  My other two favorite people.

"There's enough estrogen flowing out there to keep a baby clinic in business for a decade," Janet mumbles as I walk by.

I just snicker and grab the first tray of sandwiches.  "And just think - you get to do more than just look on a regular basis," I whisper.

"Don't think I don't enjoy the hell out of that," she says with a knowing wink.  Janet is the best doctor I've ever seen - and she is one hell of a minx.  And my best friend to boot.

I take the tray outside and set it on the picnic table.  Men and women crowd in to get their first snack of the day.  I see my lawn sprinkler being dragged out front - looks like the kids are going to be making their own fun for awhile.

The guys eat quickly then go back to work.  Siler's here now and things are moving a little more rapidly.  Jack's teasing him.  Siler just 'yes sir's him and keeps working.  There are chuckles from all assembled.  I grab the last half of a sandwich on the tray and sit down, watching.  Watching two of the men in particular.  Jack and Daniel.

It kills me to know they can't be open in front of people.  When I first found out about them, I was pretty upset.  I was heart broken that my chance with Jack was well and truly over, but looking at them now . . . I just can't imagine things any other way.  Daniel's watching Jack.  The look on his face is amazing.  He loves him so much.  Jack just caught the look.  Oh my god - is that a blush?  It is!  I can't believe that - with just one look Daniel made Jack blush.  Jack grabs the bottle of water out of Daniel's hands and - Holy Hanna, he just licked the top before he took a drink.  He's handing it back to Daniel now - and Daniel does the same thing.  Has the temperature gone up?  Because I'm certainly getting a little warm sitting here.

Activity's starting to pick up.  I better go bring out some more ice and drinks.  Looks like we're all going to need it.  I trot into the house and check with Janet to see if she needs any help.  I get a "shoo" from her and it's off to the basement I go to get another couple cases of pop.  I flick on the light and the bulb promptly burns out.  Nice.  I can make a generator out of elements not found on this planet, but do you think I could keep a stock of light bulbs in the house?  No, of course not.  It's all right, I know where the pop - OW!  Damn!  Forgot I put the spare tires down here.

I'll take a short cut back out through the garage . . . wait a minute . . . who's in my garage?  I better go slow - don't want to scare anyone.  As I step up onto the landing, I hear a voice I recognize and I freeze in place.  No way I'm going in there, not now.

"Do you have any idea how badly I want you right now?"

"Jack, this is Sam's garage, have a little respect."

"It's Carter - she won't mind."

I can hear the sound of some pretty wet and thorough kisses going on.  I grab tighter onto the boxes in my arms and steady myself against the wall.  We're talking one of my hottest fantasies coming true right now - in my garage.  I mean, face it - who wouldn't want to watch?  If I lean just a little - oh god - how hot is THAT?  Jack's got Daniel in a liplock that would melt trinium.  Jeeeezus - don't they breathe?

"Love you, Jack."

Daniel sounds like he's just run a marathon.

"Love you, too."

Jack's not sounding much better.

"I want to take you home and fuck you absolutely stupid."

Did that just come out of Daniel's mouth?  I have to bite my lips together to keep from laughing.  Who knew?

"You already did that."  Crap!  Jack's growling.  I can't take much more of this.

"Then it's your turn to do me."

God almighty!  Daniel can do filthy like I've never heard before in my life.  I'm seriously on the edge here.

"Let's get this thing finished so we can get the hell out of here."

"Jack, you walk out there like that, everyone's going to know something went on in here."

Okay - that's just begging for me to take a closer - looo-oooky there!  Why Colonel, it's not just your side arm. *snort*

"I'll just tell them I saw Carter bending over putting in some wash.  They all think we're doing it anyway."

I hear Daniel snicker and they're kissing again.  "Better not tell her that."

"I can take Carter."  Silence and the door out to the yard opens.  "I can!"  The door closes.  Jack waits awhile before going out and I can finally put these stupid cases of pop down.  I shake out my arms and laugh at what I've just witnessed.  But in all honesty, I'll kill anyone who tries to come between those two.  Love like that doesn't happen very often - I don't care what planet you happen to reside on.  Will I run interference anyway I can to keep them safe and away from prying eyes?  You bet your ass I will.  And maybe the Colonel could take me in a fight - but I doubt anyone else could.  Not when I'm fighting to protect one of the purest things I've ever seen on this or any other world.  I mean after all - what are friends for?
